H&H Mechanical: 40+ Years Serving Wisconsin — Our Story
How a small installation company founded in 1982 grew into Wisconsin's most trusted full-service mechanical contractor.
Every business has an origin story. Ours starts in 1982, in the kind of straightforward way most lasting things do — with a commitment to doing the work right, showing up on time, and standing behind every job. Over four decades later, H&H Mechanical Contractors is still guided by those same principles, even as the scope of what we do has grown well beyond what our founders could have imagined.
This is the story of how we got here — and what we believe makes us different from every other HVAC company in Wisconsin.
Where It All Began
H&H Mechanical was founded as a commercial installation company — straightforward in mission, focused in scope. Our early customers were businesses that needed dependable mechanical work done properly and on budget. There were no shortcuts, no overselling, and no excuses. What we offered then is what we still offer today: quality workmanship at a competitive price.
That reputation didn't happen overnight. It was built job by job, customer by customer, across the cities and facilities of Wisconsin. Word spread. Work grew. And with growth came the opportunity to do more.
"With great quality workmanship comes growth. That has been the story of H&H Mechanical from the very beginning."
A Company That Grew With Its Customers
By the mid-1990s, it was clear that our commercial customers needed more than installation. Buildings were becoming more complex. Energy costs were rising. Facility managers needed smarter systems — ones they could actually understand and control. In 1995, H&H responded by launching a dedicated HVAC controls department.
It was a pivotal move. Our controls technicians began working hand-in-hand with our mechanical installation teams, installing the sensors, actuators, and temperature control systems that make a building truly intelligent. We didn't just wire things up and leave — we programmed the systems, trained the facility staff, and offered remote access so customers could monitor their buildings from anywhere in the world.
That philosophy of staying close to our customers — of treating every relationship as a long-term partnership — is what has driven every major decision we've made since.
Our Timeline: Four Decades of Growth
H&H Mechanical Contractors opens its doors in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, as a commercial HVAC installation company. From day one, the focus is on quality workmanship and building lasting customer relationships.
H&H establishes its fully functioning union sheet metal shop — the company's most foundational division. In-house duct fabrication gives H&H a major advantage: faster timelines, tighter quality control, and cost savings passed directly to customers.
Responding to growing customer demand, H&H launches a dedicated controls department. Control technicians begin coordinating with installation teams to integrate Building Automation Systems (BAS), delivering smarter, more energy-efficient facilities and remote monitoring capabilities.
H&H extends its expertise to homeowners across Milwaukee and surrounding areas, offering furnace, boiler, air conditioning, and heat pump services. The same commitment to quality that built our commercial reputation is brought directly into Wisconsin homes.
H&H builds out a full team of engineers and CAD drafters, cementing its position as a true design-build contractor. This rare combination — designing and installing under one roof — eliminates coordination gaps and gives customers a single point of accountability from blueprint to commissioning.
With over 40 years of continuous operation, H&H Mechanical serves commercial clients across all of Wisconsin and residential customers throughout the Milwaukee metro area. Our team includes in-house engineers, union sheet metal workers, BACnet-certified controls technicians, and experienced service professionals — all under one roof.
What Sets H&H Apart: The Design-Build Advantage
Most HVAC companies do one thing: install equipment that someone else designed. A smaller number specialize in design. Very few do both — and do them well.
H&H Mechanical is one of them. Our in-house engineering and CAD drafting team works directly alongside our installation crews. That means the people who draw the system are the same people who field its challenges, solve its problems, and commission it to perform exactly as designed. The gap between "what the drawings say" and "what actually gets built" — a gap that costs time and money on nearly every HVAC project — is dramatically smaller when design and installation live under the same roof.
On plan-and-spec jobs, we work hand-in-hand with the engineer of record to meet their requirements while proactively identifying cost-saving alternatives. On design-build projects, we own the full scope from concept to commissioning. Either way, the result is a tighter, smarter, more efficient project for our customers.
Our Services, Built Over Four Decades
Every service we offer today grew out of a real customer need. Here's what the full H&H Mechanical platform looks like:
Our Commitment to Safety and Compliance
We take the safety of our people, our customers, and the communities we work in seriously. That's not a marketing line — it's embedded in how we operate every single day.
Every H&H team member — from our union sheet metal workers to our controls technicians — operates within a culture of accountability. Our technicians receive ongoing training to stay current with the newest systems and latest technologies. Our commercial HVAC professionals undergo rigorous background testing and drug screening before joining the team. And in our shop and in the field, OSHA and EPA standards aren't a checklist — they're a way of working.
Four Decades In — Still Family, Still Local
H&H Mechanical is a local, family-owned business. That distinction matters more than it might sound. It means decisions are made by people who live and work in Wisconsin, who care about the reputation they leave behind, and who measure success in decades rather than quarters.
It means when you call H&H, you're not navigating a national call center. You're reaching a team that knows your market, understands Wisconsin winters, and is invested in the long-term performance of every system we touch.
Our mission hasn't changed since 1982: minimize downtime, maximize comfort, and deliver peace of mind. We just have a lot more ways to do it now.
